Money raised at Twestival Galway

charity: water for Twestival from charity: water on Vimeo.

Hi Everyone!

We raised 300 euros exactly last night. Thanks to everyone who contributed and thanks to the House Hotel for giving us the venue.
To all that got involved in such a lastminute.com project, I cannot thank you enough. : )

To see where our small yet important sum of money will be going have a look at the video above.

Thanks to all for coming along.

If anyone would like to match our donation or contribute more please drop me a mail.

It costs between $4,000 and $12,000 dollars to build a well.

House Hotel location.

For those of you who don't know where the House Hotel is in Galway:

Follow the side street on the left hand side of the Quays pub. This road leads down to Flood street.

On the right hand side as you exit the lane you should see the back of the House Hotel.
The front of the Hotel is on Merchants Road.
There is an entrance at both the Front and the back of the hotel.

See you there!

Who is coming to Twestival Galway?

Hi could everyone direct message me on Twitter if you are coming, so I can make name badges for you all?

I'm @Ina.
It will be good to see the faces behind the avatars.
This timely and very, very cool application above from @walter over at Sxoop technologies and can be found here. Gorgeous design by @SabrinaDent.

Change of venue

Hi Everyone. As the numbers that will be able to attend Twestival Galway now, are going to be quite small there will be a change of venue. The event will be held at 8pm in the Quays pub on Quay Street. Hope to see those there that can make it.

Ambient Age

David Kelly of Ambient Age has very generously offered to sponsor the Twestival Galway event at Nimmos.
He is also helping with prizes for a raffle.
If anyone else could help with the sponsorship at such short notice it would be great.
Any help from the other businesses in Galway on Twitter would be greatly appreciated.

Twestival Galway at Nimmos

Hi everyone I noticed that Galway was not on the Twestival list of cities, so I've spoken to one of the organisers @Amanda and Twestival Galway, will now be held Thursday night, February the 12th @ 8pm, upstairs at Nimmos.
I will be sending around updates and will be linking to the main Twestival website on Wednesday. I need some volunteers and some help with some technical stuff oh and yes sponsorship would be great for the event!
Please leave a comment below or you can reach me at @Ina on Twitter.

What is Twestival ?

On 12 February 2009 175+ cities around the world will be hosting Twestivals which bring together Twitter communities for an evening of fun and to raise money and awareness for charity: water. The Twestival is organized 100% by volunteers in cities around the world and 100% of the money raised from these events will go directly to support charity: water projects.

In September 2008, a group of Twitterers based in London UK decided to organise an event where the local Twitter community could socialize offline; meet the faces behind the avatars, enjoy some entertainment, have a few drinks and tie this in with a food drive and fundraising effort for a local homeless charity. The bulk of the event was organized in under two weeks, via Twitter and utilized the talents and financial support of the local Twittersphere to make this happen.

Around the world similar stories started appearing of local Twitter communities coming together and taking action for a great cause. Twestival was born out of the idea that if cities were able to collaborate on an international scale, but working from a local level, it could have a spectacular impact.By rallying together globally, under short timescales, for a single aim on the same day, the Twestival hopes to bring awareness to this global crisis.

charity: water is a non profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations by funding sustainable clean water solutions in areas of greatest need.

We all know that Twitter can be a powerful communications tool. It can connect, mobilize and inform people around the world instantly. Those of us on Twitter know of its ability to organically create interesting communities from those people who find and follow each other. It is proven from the first Twestival that bringing the Twittersphere together for a special event is not only a memorable night; it has momentum to bring about social change.
